Frequently
Ask Questions
How do I choose a Teacher?
First, it is important to choose an instructor with the right training. Check to make sure your instructor is CERTIFIED through a comprehensive training program to teach Pilates. All of our instructors are certified. Second, make sure that you "connect" with your instructor. You need to feel comfortable, safe, challenged, and able to communicate your goals.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates is a refreshing mind-body workout where the quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. You will build strength without "bulking up" - gaining long, lean muscles, flexibility and a deepened understanding of movement. Conventional workouts tend to build short, bulky muscles - the type most prone to injury. Pilates elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured. Develop a strong core - flat abdominals and a strong back.
What do I wear to Pilates?
We encourage our clients to wear something with stretch for ease of movement as well as something that will cover your body. Form fitting clothing will allow your instructor to give you optimum feedback. Running shorts are not quite enough coverage and you don't need shoes-sticky socks or barefoot is best. With the appropriate clothing, you will be able to relax, stretch and function at your best.
Can I do this on my lunch hour?
Absolutely! Although Pilates provides such great results, it doesn't require a lot of strain and sweat on your part to perform the exercises properly. Here at Four Graces, we offer a clean and relaxing environment to exercise. We also offer "freshen-up" toilettes so that you can return to work rejuvenated and invigorated. Come visit our studio to see what we have to offer. We're sure you will like it.
What if I have a back injury?
Pilates is one of the best exercises to do when working with an injury. Pilates will help you gain core strength which is a vital element to help rehabilitate your back injury. All of our instructors have anatomical training and are careful to work within your range of motion while challenging you to gain the strength necessary for healing.
How long before I start seeing results?
Joseph Pilates said, "After 10 sessions you will feel a difference. After 20 sessions you will see a difference. And, after 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body." After your first session, we're sure you'll be hooked!
Can men benefit from Pilates?
Joseph Pilates was a man! We have lots of male clients at our studio. And, Pilates is a huge part of the profesionnal sports business. Top-dollar athletes such as NBA guard Jason Kidd, LA Laker Kobe Bryant, pro hockey player Carlo Colaiacovo, World Series pitcher Curt Schilling, offensive lineman Ruben Brown, and world-class golfer Tiger Woods are known to be fans of Pilates - in order to stay on top of their game and prevent injury.

Who will benefit from Suspension Training®?
Everyone can benefit from Suspension Training®. Because the user can effortlessly control the resistance and level of difficulty by simply shifting the position of their body, the TRX® Suspension Trainer, is perfect for gentle rehabilitation, hardcore athletic training, and everything in between. Suspension Training® also allows for complete ranges of motion while training which allows for a more functional workout routine.
Is Suspension Training® appropriate for people who are out of shape or just beginning to exercise?
Yes, because the user has control over the amount of bodyweight resistance, control of the angle in which they place their body, and can control their stability by their foot placement (wide stance, narrow stance, single leg) which means it can very well be used for people that are not professional or performance athletes nor regularly active. Suspension Training can also be used to assist a number of movements that are too difficult for many deconditioned users.
How is Suspension Training® different than other types of resistance training?
Traditional weight training often only works one muscle at a time which is contradictory to the normal coordinated muscle effort used to complete most activities. Focusing on only one muscle at a time is more likely to lead to overuse injuries and muscular imbalances, as well as potentially limit strength and movement gains. Suspension Training® allows for the use of multiple planes of motion and works multiple muscles and joints simultaneously.
Is TRX® good for rehabilitation or physical therapy after an injury?
Many physical therapists are currently using the TRX to help their patients recover from various injuries. The ease of adjusting resistance, functionality of using body weight and the closed kinetic chain nature of many of the exercises make it a very powerful tool for this type of use.
How long is a session?
At Core Pilates a normal TRX session takes an hour. This will include the all-important warm-up and cool-down stretches that will help you to avoid, or recover from, injury.
Can I lose weight during TRX® training?
Because TRX workouts can be tailored to your needs, your instructor will ask you what your objectives are, so that she can ensure that your program helps you achieve the results you want. Whether you want to gain weight, lose weight, get stronger, build stamina or recover from injury, there are TRX exercises for you.
What are you hours?
